Dr.Muthiah Srinivasan, graduated from Tirunelveli Medical College in 1972. He completed his post-graduation in Ophthalmology at Madurai Medical College in 1981. Joined Aravind Eye Hospital and Post Graduate Institute of Ophthalmology, Madurai as full time faculty in the same year and was Chief Medical Officer from 1997 to 2005. Now serving as the Director of Aravind Eye Care System since 2005.
He was a Clinical Fellow at University of Illinois, Chicago, USA in 1982. Trained as a Corneal Fellow at University of Rochester, New York in 1983. He was the Chief of Cornea Service at Aravind Eye Hospital since 1984. Short term Fellow Ocular Microbiology at Proctor Foundation, University of San Franscisco in 1992; Trained in refractive surgeries at Sandiago and Minnesota in 1994.
Interested in infectious diseases of cornea: Prevention and managing corneal ulcer; corneal transplantation; eye banking; stem cell and refractive surgery. Associated with Eye Bank Association of India and contributes as Medical Director of Rotary Aravind Eye Bank, Madurai and President of Eye Bank Association of India; Interested in postgraduate teaching and skill transfer.
He is a recipient of numerous awards and honours including the International Award by the readers of “Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today”, as one among the Top 50 Opinion Leaders – 2005, for his Outstanding Contribution and Leadership in the Fields of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the BEST TEACHER AWARD in the year 2001 at Hyderabad by the Andhra Pradesh Academic Sciences.
